Yes. OGAD (Off Grid AI Desktop) and OGAM (Off Grid AI Mobile) offer local AI through their free core apps. Install the app, download a suitable model and use that model on your device. An Off Grid AI account or cloud-model subscription is not required for this local workflow. Pro and optional connected services have separate terms and setup.

What can you do before paying?
Start with a concrete task such as rewriting a note, explaining text or asking about a supported image. The core app supplies the local model workflow. You download the model you need, choose it in chat and provide the input yourself.
That makes it possible to test whether local AI helps with your work before considering a paid feature. You can judge the answer, check how your device handles the model and decide whether the setup is useful.

Model and platform support still matter. A free app does not make every model suitable for every phone, or supply every desktop feature on Linux.
What does “no account” mean here?
It means the basic local AI workflow does not require you to register an Off Grid AI cloud account or supply a hosted-model API key. The downloaded model processes your request using your device’s hardware.
You may still use an app-store account to install a mobile app. A paid purchase has licensing and payment records. An optional service you connect can require its own account. These are different from a mandatory account for each local prompt.
Keep those distinctions clear when setting up a device for someone else. If the goal is simply to draft text locally, there is no reason to start by configuring a cloud provider, connecting an email account or enabling background capture.

How do you get a first useful result?
Install the appropriate app and open its model setup. Choose one local text model suited to the device. Let the download finish, then load the model and open a chat.
Use a small, realistic input:
I need to tell a client that the report is ready. The spreadsheet needs their latest sales figures. We can finish the final section after they send those figures. I want the message to be clear and friendly.
Ask:
Draft a short email from these notes. State what is ready, what we need from the client and what happens next. Do not add a deadline, fee or commitment.
Check whether the answer follows those limits. Revise it as you would a draft written by a colleague. The useful result is an email you can inspect and edit, not a claim that the model is always correct.
Try a second task with the same model. For example, ask it to turn your own rough notes into a checklist. If both tasks work, you have a practical starting point without a recurring model bill.
Can this work without internet?
Downloaded local models can perform supported local tasks after setup without internet. Initial app and model downloads need connectivity. Some capabilities need extra resources, so prepare the whole workflow before disconnecting.
If you want spoken replies, test the selected voice while online and confirm that its files are ready. If you want image generation, prepare the image model too. A downloaded chat model cannot supply missing speech or image files.
To check readiness, disconnect and repeat the same short local task. Avoid web search, remote models and connected tools during this check. Those operations need their own network route even when the model making the request is local.
Where does Pro fit?
Pro adds selected workflows beyond manually supplying an input to a local model. On supported desktop releases, examples include background capture, retained work context, meeting workflows, Clipboard and Vault. Feature availability depends on platform and release.
You do not need to decide on that layer before trying local chat. First identify a repeated problem. If it is “I want help rewriting a paragraph,” core chat may be enough. If it is “I want to recover what I was working on earlier,” you need to examine capture, retention and Pro support.
Linux beta108 provides core functionality, while its Pro layer is not bundled. Windows and Mac support also need feature-specific checks. A Pro license does not make an unavailable platform feature appear. Current desktop release.

Are there still costs to consider?
Yes. Local inference uses hardware, power, storage and your time. Large model downloads can also matter on a limited connection. If you choose a remote paid model or a connected service, its charges are separate from the free local core.
For a small firm, evaluate the complete task. How much time does setup take? Can a colleague repeat the workflow? Does the answer need extensive correction? A free model is useful when it produces work worth keeping on hardware you already have.
Do not measure success by the number of models downloaded. One reliable workflow is a better start than a library you have not tested.
