You can listen to the comic you made on your Mac. OGAD (Off Grid AI Desktop) includes Read Aloud in its comic reader. With a local speech model downloaded, it turns the page’s story text into spoken audio on your computer and can continue to the next page when playback ends.

This is useful for hearing the rhythm of a short story, sharing a personal comic with someone beside you, or catching awkward sentences that are easy to miss while reading silently. The narration uses the written story, so you can focus on the pictures while you listen.
The route below uses a Mac and downloaded local models. Prepare the apps and voice model before going offline.
What does the reader narrate?
The comic reader speaks the current page’s Story text. It does not need to recognize lettering inside the picture. The comic workflow keeps the narration or dialogue beside the generated artwork, where it stays readable and can be passed directly to the speech model.
If the story field is empty, the reader can fall back to the page notes. For a useful listening experience, check that each page contains finished story text rather than only production instructions.
The reader and speech controls are in OGAD 0.0.51. This guide covers playback within the comic reader. It does not promise a finished audiobook file, soundtrack, or separate character voice for every line.
Hear whether the story flows
Listening changes what you notice. A repeated word, a long sentence, or a sudden jump between pages can stand out more clearly when spoken. Use a short comic first so you can review the whole sequence.
For example, a page might read:
Mira reached the bridge before sunset. The little robot rolled beside her, holding the letter above the water. On the far bank, one window still glowed.
Listen for whether the sentences leave room to look at the illustration. If the narration explains every object in the picture, the page may feel crowded. If it omits the action that connects two pages, the listener may lose the story.
Use what you hear to guide your next revision of the story brief or text. A smoother voice does not fix a missing story beat.
Choose the language and voice that fit the text
The reader has Language, Model, and Voice controls. Available choices come from the speech models and voices the app can use. Select a local model and a voice suitable for the language already written on the page.

Changing Language does not translate the comic. If the story is written in English, choosing a different language’s voice does not create a translated version. Prepare the story text in the language you want to hear, then use a model and voice that support it.
Voice choices also do not clone a real person. They are the speakers supplied by the selected model.
Getting started
Prepare the comic and one local speech model, then listen to a single page before playing the sequence. That checks the text, voice, and output device with a small request.
- In OGAD’s Models, download and activate a local speech model.
- Open the conversation containing your generated comic and open its reader.
- Go to the page you want to hear.
- Choose an available Model, Language, and Voice.
- Select Read Aloud and wait for the audio to be generated.
If you have not made a comic yet, open a new chat and choose Create a comic book from the prepared workflow cards. Start with the minimum ten-page option and a short complete story. A local text model plans the pages, and a local image model creates their illustrations.
The prepared cards are available from an empty ordinary chat. The separate sidebar Assistant area is a Pro entry point; it is not required for the reader route described here.
Follow the pages or stop on one scene
While narration loads or plays, the reader shows its audio state and changes the button to Stop. When a page’s playback finishes normally, the reader can advance and speak the next available page.
Use Stop when you want to inspect a picture or revise your view of the story. Page navigation stops current speech before showing another page, so the spoken text stays tied to what you are reading.
Start from the first page if you want to hear the full available sequence. The reader may initially be showing a more recently generated page, so check the page number before pressing Read Aloud.
Why is there no narration?
Check that a compatible voice model is installed and selected. A text model for chat or an image model for the comic does not also supply speech synthesis.
If the reader shows Generating audio, allow time for synthesis. If it reports that speech is unavailable or failed, return to Models and check the speech model before retrying. Also check the Mac’s volume and selected audio output.
If the wrong text is spoken, inspect the page’s Story field. Read Aloud uses that text; it does not infer a new description of the picture. If a name sounds wrong, try another available voice and review the wording you supplied.
Keep the narration local
Select a downloaded local speech model for an offline narration path. The reader can also list other configured models, so check the model choice before using private story text. A remote model follows that server’s network and privacy rules.
Once the comic, its local image files, and the local speech model are available, this Mac workflow does not require a cloud text-to-speech service. Internet may still be needed for initial downloads or separately configured online services.
Listen to one page of your own story
Download OGAD for Mac, open your comic, and try Read Aloud on one page. Choose a voice you like, check the words, and continue through the story. You can review the writing and enjoy the artwork in the same local reader.
