You start an AI conversation on your phone, then reach your computer and have to explain the same task again. OGAM (Off Grid AI Mobile) and OGAD (Off Grid AI Desktop) can keep those conversations in sync. Pair your own devices, and the chat history can follow you over your local network without a cloud sync account.

Pairing establishes which devices you trust. After setup, changes can sync while the devices are connected. This is useful for continuing a conversation, opening its attachments, and keeping project context available at your desk.
What do you need before pairing?
Install current releases on both devices and complete Pro setup for full device sync. Keep both apps open on the same local network for your first connection. Internet can be needed for installation, activation, and model downloads; the local sync connection itself does not need cloud storage.
These steps cover Android or iPhone with Mac or Windows. Use a network that allows devices to reach each other. A guest network that isolates clients can stop discovery even when both devices show the same Wi-Fi name.
Use only your own trusted devices. Chats and projects are required shared data in this sync system. Pairing does not offer a private selection of just one chat while hiding all other chats.
How do you pair the phone with your computer?
Open Devices on the computer and Settings > Sync on the phone. Make the devices discoverable. Show the computer’s pairing QR code, then scan it inside the phone app. Keep the devices together until the connection completes.
- On OGAD, open Devices. Enable discoverability and Find nearby devices if needed.
- On OGAM, open Settings > Sync. The gear beside the local device opens Device settings, including Discoverable and Find nearby devices.
- On the computer, select Show QR Code.
- On the phone, use Scan pairing QR code. Allow camera access, then scan the code shown by your computer.
- Check that the device name matches your computer and wait for pairing to finish.
If scanning is unavailable, choose the discovered computer on the phone and enter the pairing code shown by that computer. Do not send the code to someone else: it is part of authorizing a trusted device.
The mobile sync release introduced local chat and project sync. Use current mobile releases and desktop releases together for the current connection controls.
How do you check that the conversation follows you?
Create a short chat on the phone with a recognizable first message. Keep both apps open, then find that conversation on the computer. Add a follow-up on the computer and check it on the phone.
The expected result is the same conversation and its messages on both devices. Attachments can still be transferring after the text arrives. Wait for them to finish before opening them on the other device.
A synced conversation does not mean its AI model was also installed on the second device. To generate a new local reply there, select a model available on that device. Using the computer’s model from the phone is a separate remote-model connection.
Try a handoff that shows what pairing gives you
Use a small project you can recognize, such as planning a weekend trip. On the phone, ask for a packing list and add a requirement: you are travelling with one small bag. Wait for that conversation to appear on the computer. Read the earlier messages there before asking for a shorter list.
This is the useful result: the next device has the conversation you already built. You should not need to paste the earlier exchange into a new chat. Check the follow-up on the phone before closing either app.
Then test one small attachment. Send a non-sensitive image in that conversation and wait for its transfer to complete. Text arriving first is useful progress, but it does not prove the image is ready. Checking text and media separately helps you identify which part needs attention.
Keep these three jobs separate when diagnosing a problem:
| Job | What confirms it |
|---|---|
| Pairing | Both apps identify the intended trusted device |
| Sync | A new conversation change arrives on the other device |
| Inference | A ready model produces the next reply |
A successful pairing does not prove every later transfer finished. A successful transfer does not prove the destination has a model ready. Start with the failed job instead of removing a working device relationship each time an AI reply is slow.
What if the other device does not appear?
| Symptom | Check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| No device is listed | Discoverability and nearby search | Enable both controls, keep the apps open, and rescan. |
| Both are on Wi-Fi but cannot connect | Guest isolation, VPN routes, or firewall | Use a trusted local network and allow the app’s local network access. |
| The QR code is rejected | Code age and selected device | Reopen the code and scan the correct device. |
| Text arrives but a file does not open | Transfer state | Keep both devices connected until the attachment finishes. |
Can you pair without internet?
After app and Pro setup, a working local route is enough for local sync. Wi-Fi must still carry traffic between the devices. Switching every radio off removes that route.
Optional screenshot, download, and clipboard sharing have their own controls. Review those before enabling automatic sharing. Changing a future sharing rule does not erase a copy already received elsewhere.
Install OGAM and OGAD, pair your own phone and computer, then try one conversation in both directions.
