You already downloaded the model. Your phone needs a copy.
OGAD (Off Grid AI Desktop) can send a compatible installed model to OGAM (Off Grid AI Mobile) over your local network. You avoid another internet download and put the model on the phone itself. Once it is installed, the phone can use it without keeping your computer connected.
This is a Pro device-sync workflow. Set up the apps and activate access while you have internet. The transfer below then needs a working local network, not an internet connection.

What can you do with the transferred model?
Put a small text model on your phone before a trip. Use it to rewrite a message, make a packing list or turn rough notes into an outline when internet is unavailable. The computer supplies the model file; the phone runs the next request locally.
That distinction matters. Transferring a model gives your phone its own copy. It does not let the phone borrow the computer’s memory or processing power.
Which desktop model should you send first?
Start with a small GGUF text model already installed in OGAD. GGUF is the file format used by the portable text-model route. Choose one that fits the receiving phone’s memory budget. A large model working well on your computer does not mean it will fit on your phone.
| What you have | What to do |
|---|---|
| A small installed GGUF text model | Use this for your first transfer |
| A supported vision model | Send the complete package, including its required vision file |
| A desktop image or speech-output model | Do not assume the mobile app can use that package |
| A model that exceeds the phone’s memory budget | Choose a smaller compatible model |
Use the models offered by the Send model picker for that device. The picker works from installed model packages; an entry in a catalog is not a downloaded file ready to send.
You need free storage on the phone as well as enough memory to run the model. File size and working memory are different requirements.
How do you connect the computer and phone?
Install current OGAD and OGAM versions, activate Pro on the participating devices, and connect them to the same local network. The computer can use Ethernet if it reaches that network. Keep OGAD open and the phone app in the foreground.
- In OGAD, open Devices. Make it discoverable if the status is Hidden.
- Select Show QR Code.
- On the phone, open Settings → Sync.
- Use Scan pairing QR code to scan the computer’s code, then complete the displayed pairing steps.
- Wait until the devices show as connected.
For code entry instead, select the computer in OGAM’s discovered devices, enter its pairing code and select Pair.
Pair your own trusted devices. This connection also shares the required chat and project workspace; it is not a model-only delivery link.
How do you send the model to the phone?
In OGAD, use Send model for your connected phone, choose the installed model and start the transfer. OGAM verifies the received package before adding it to its model library. Keep both apps open until installation completes.
- In Devices, find the connected phone and select Send model.
- Choose a small text model from the list. Check its name and size.
- Select Send model in the transfer panel.
- Let the transfer and verification finish. Follow any receiving prompt shown on the phone.
- Open Models in OGAM and check that the received model is available.
- Select that local model for a chat and ask: “Turn these notes into a packing checklist: rain, hiking, two nights, train journey.”
A file that has finished sending can still be under verification or installation. Wait for the phone to make the model available before starting a reply.
How do you check that the phone can work on its own?
After installation, disconnect the phone from the computer’s network and turn off mobile data. Open a new chat with the transferred local model and send a short request. The phone should generate the answer from its own installed copy.
Choose an ordinary text task for this check. Web search, cloud models and connected online tools still have their own internet requirements.
This gives you a useful result before you travel: a model on the phone that does not depend on your home computer staying awake.
What if the model does not arrive or will not run?
| Problem | Next step |
|---|---|
| Send model is unavailable | Reopen both apps and wait for connected status |
| The desired model is absent from the list | Confirm that it is installed and compatible with the receiving platform |
| Transfer stops after leaving the phone app | Bring OGAM back to the foreground and check the transfer status |
| The phone reports insufficient storage | Free local storage before trying again |
| The model installs but cannot load | Choose a smaller model that fits the phone’s memory budget |
| The app says the model is already installed | Open Models on the receiving phone and use that copy |
If the devices cannot discover each other, check their discovery settings and avoid guest Wi-Fi that isolates clients. On iPhone, allow Local Network access for OGAM. On Windows, allow OGAD through the firewall for your trusted network.
The guide uses the Devices workflow shipped in OGAD 0.0.51 and the mobile transfer flow in OGAM 0.0.111. Use current versions on both sides.
Put one useful model on your phone
Download OGAD and get OGAM on Android or iPhone. Send one small text model you already have, then use it for a real task with the phone offline. One download can supply both devices.
