Say you want to capture an appointment, a shopping note, or a draft message in Spanish. You can speak the note, check the text, and copy it into another app. You do not need an English translation to do this.
This guide covers a new recording through the microphone inside OGAM. It does not cover importing an existing voice message from another app.
What do you need for offline Spanish dictation?
You need OGAM, a downloaded multilingual speech model, and microphone permission. Use Android 10 or later with at least 4 GB of RAM, or an iPhone 12 or newer with iOS 17 or later. Connect to the internet for installation and the initial model download.
Check the Android requirements or iPhone requirements before installing. These are app requirements. Larger speech models can need more available memory than your phone has while other models are loaded.
Use version 0.0.111 or later for the controls described here. The mobile release page identifies that version. On iPhone, check your regional App Store for the available update.
The task has two separate model choices:

Keep enough storage for the app and your chosen models. Download size does not describe all the memory used during transcription.
Which speech model should you use for Spanish?
Start with Base, 99 languages, an approximate 142 MB download. Select it under On-device models in the transcription picker. The English-only Base model has the same short name, so check the language label. Choose the multilingual version even if your phone’s interface is already in Spanish.
Open Model Settings > Transcription (Speech to Text) > Transcription model.
For a first comparison, these smaller models are enough to consider:

The sizes are the app’s catalog estimates. The models need additional working memory. Do not download every size before trying one sentence.
The local engine uses Whisper. Filenames ending in .en identify English-only models, such as base.en. The whisper.cpp model documentation distinguishes these from multilingual models.
The microphone’s first-use download shortcut can select an English-only model. Use the transcription picker for this Spanish setup.
How do you select Spanish as the spoken language?
Open Chat Settings > SPEECH TO TEXT > Language and select Spanish. The app passes Spanish as the language for transcription. You can also use Auto-detect with a multilingual model, but selecting Spanish removes a language choice from your first short test.
If you only see English, check the active transcription model. Select a model marked 99 languages, then reopen Chat Settings.
There is one Spanish choice in this selector. It does not offer separate settings for Spain, Mexico, or other Spanish-speaking regions. That is not a guarantee of equal recognition across accents. Try your own speech before relying on the result.
How do you record a Spanish note without internet?
Select the downloaded local speech model, set Language to Spanish, and open Chat mode. Hold the app’s microphone control while you speak, then release it. In the ordinary dictation workflow, the transcript appears in the message box. Check it before sending or copying it elsewhere.
1. Finish the local setup
Select Base, 99 languages under On-device models. Wait for downloading and loading to finish. Set Language to Spanish.
Use ordinary Chat mode with a text model for these steps. Voice conversation mode and models that accept audio directly can handle recordings differently, including sending a voice turn automatically.
2. Disconnect the phone
Turn on airplane mode and confirm that Wi-Fi is off too. Airplane mode can leave Wi-Fi enabled. You are checking that the downloaded model works with no active internet connection.
3. Record this short example
Hold the microphone control inside OGAM. Allow microphone permission if asked. Say:
El viernes tengo una cita con Marta a las nueve y media en Madrid.
Release the control when you finish. Use this sentence for your first check.
Use the app’s microphone. The microphone on your phone’s keyboard can use a separate dictation service.
4. Check the useful details
Read the text in the message box. It should preserve the meaning of the sentence you said: an appointment with Marta on Friday at nine thirty in Madrid.

The model may write the time as words or digits. Check the meaning before the format. Correct the text yourself if a detail changed.
5. Use the reviewed note
Copy the text into your notes or a message draft. If you send it for an AI reply while offline, select a downloaded local chat model too.
How should you check accents, punctuation, and names?
Treat the transcript as an editable draft. Check written accents, question marks, and sentence boundaries before using it. The app does not promise exact punctuation, perfect spelling, or correct recognition of every proper name. A sentence can look polished while its date or person’s name is wrong.
For names and street addresses, compare the result with the spelling you know. Correct the text in the message box. Selecting Spanish does not teach the model the names of your contacts.
Speak at a steady pace with the phone near your voice. Reduce background noise. For an initial check, use one sentence in Spanish rather than switching between Spanish and English halfway through.
If Base repeatedly misses words, try Small with a similar sentence in the same room. Compare the errors that matter to your task. A larger download alone does not establish that it performs better for your accent.
Why is Spanish speech coming back incorrectly?

Does Spanish dictation translate the text into English?
No. This workflow transcribes Spanish speech into Spanish text. The local decoding settings disable translation. To get English, first review the Spanish transcript, then ask a local chat model to translate that text. Download the chat model in advance if both steps must work offline.
For example, after checking the appointment note, ask:
Translate this Spanish note into English. Keep the person’s name, place, day, and time unchanged.
Then check those details in the English result too. A translation cannot reliably repair speech that was recognized incorrectly.
Does your recording leave the phone?
With an on-device transcription model selected, OGAM processes the recording locally. No cloud speech API is required for the Spanish text to appear. The disconnected test above gives you a way to check that workflow on your own phone.
A remote transcription service changes the processing path. Sending the result to a remote chat model or another app is a separate action. Keep both model choices local when you need speech recognition and AI replies without internet.
Is offline Spanish speech-to-text free?
Local speech-to-text is included in the free mobile app. Spoken AI replies are a separate text-to-speech feature in Pro. You do not need spoken replies to dictate a Spanish note and copy its text.
Choose Base, 99 languages, select Spanish, and try the appointment sentence with the internet off. Check the day and time before you use it for a real note.
