Use AI to choose a direction
Suppose you are planning photos for a ceramic cup. You want to compare a quiet kitchen scene, a colorful studio surface and a simple outdoor setting. Local generation gives you drafts to discuss before arranging props or booking a finished shoot.
The useful result is a concept: what belongs in the scene, where the light comes from and how much space the product needs. Generated images can alter shape, material, labels and proportions. They are not proof of what a real product looks like or does.
Write the visual brief before the prompt
Keep four decisions clear: the product, the setting, the light and the final placement. If the image will sit behind a headline, include empty space in the brief. Add exact text later in your layout tool.
Try these three prompts for a fictional, unbranded cup:

Keep the product description consistent when comparing the settings. Otherwise you may end up choosing between different objects rather than different photo directions.
Generate the first concept in OGAD
- In Models, download and select a local image model that fits your computer. The released catalog includes SDXL options such as Juggernaut XL for photographic concepts.
- Open Chat, then + → Generate image.
- Paste one of your visual briefs and use the selected model’s default settings for the first draft.
- Generate the image and check its composition, lighting and object shape.
- Open useful results and select Download.
- Change only the setting or lighting in the next prompt, then compare the drafts side by side.
Local image generation is part of the free desktop app. Download the complete model and leave room for working memory as well as file storage. A 2.9 GB model download, such as the catalog’s Juggernaut XL v9 Light variant, does not imply that generation uses only that much memory.
Can you start from your own product photo?
Yes, a compatible image-to-image model can use a local photo as its starting image. In Image options, select + Init image and choose the file. Strength controls how much influence the starting image retains; lower it when the result drifts too far.
Use the result for scene exploration and inspect the product closely. The model may change the handle of a cup, the number of controls on a device or the letters on packaging. For an accurate sales image, preserve the real product in your normal editing or photography workflow.
The checked SDXL edit route supports starting images. Z-Image and the checked Core ML/MLX paths do not support this same edit route, so select the model for the task you need.
Review the concept like a brief
Ask three questions: Is the product easy to see? Does the background support the message? Is there room for the final layout? A beautiful draft that hides the product may be less useful than a simpler scene with a clear focal point.
Save the prompt with the concept so you can describe the direction to a photographer or designer. Treat any specific material, label or feature as something to verify against the real product.
This guide uses the local image workflow in OGAD 0.0.51. After setup, select a local model and keep source photos on disk for offline work. Leave optional prompt enhancement off for your first test to avoid another model dependency.
