OGAD (Off Grid AI Desktop) and OGAM (Off Grid AI Mobile) have different feature sets, so check the actual workflow before buying. What does the free desktop core do?
The core desktop app provides local chat and supported model workflows. You can work with text, prepare compatible vision and image models, and use the supported core speech routes. Projects lets you bring documents into a workspace and ask questions grounded in that material.
The important word is “prepare.” Each capability needs its model and resources. Installing a free app does not mean every model is already on disk. It also does not mean your hardware can run every catalog entry.
A useful first experiment is to paste a rough project note and ask for a short client update. You supply the facts, the local model drafts an answer, and you check it. That task does not require background screen capture.
The desktop product page describes the free core. Current release notes and app gates provide the more precise platform boundaries.
What kinds of work does Pro add?
Pro is relevant when the task goes beyond manually supplying one input. You may want to find something from earlier work, retain clipboard items, use a secure vault or use a supported meeting workflow.

These are feature areas, not a promise that every platform includes every row. Capture needs opt-in and permission. Meeting recording has its own audio setup. Automatic to-dos are suggestions drawn from available information and need review.
That makes the buying question specific: which repeated problem do you want the paid workflow to solve?
How is mobile different?
OGAM has its own free and Pro boundaries. Local text chat and supported local image workflows are distinct from the paid continuity and voice features. In particular, speaking into the chat composer is not the same as having the app read an answer aloud.
The established mobile workflow provides local dictation with a transcription model. Spoken output has Pro requirements. Check the installed app’s feature and license screens before assuming that a desktop entitlement description maps to every phone function.
For someone who mainly needs to draft short notes, free local chat may already meet the need. Someone who wants an integrated spoken interaction should check the complete voice path, including model resources, playback and tier.
Does Pro mean every feature works on every computer?
No. Platform support and paid access are separate checks. A license can enable a feature only where that release implements and supplies it.
Mac has the established Pro work tools. Windows also has shipped Pro-capable builds; verified examples include Vault, Clipboard, Replay and Devices. Older website wording that describes Windows as entirely core-only does not reflect those shipped features.
Linux v0.0.54-beta.108 supplies core functionality, with Pro not bundled. Do not buy solely on the assumption that Linux background capture or meeting tools are included. Beta108 release.
For a paid workflow, use three questions: Is it in the release? Is it available on this operating system? Is its required setup complete? All three matter.
What is a sensible way to evaluate Pro?
Choose one task you repeat and can check. Suppose you often need a phrase you copied earlier. Clipboard is a clearer test than asking whether the whole app will make you more productive.
- Confirm the feature is available on your operating system and release.
- Review the current Pro purchase and activation details in the app.
- Prepare the feature using harmless sample material.
- Perform the real action, such as copying two distinct sample phrases.
- Find the earlier item and confirm you can use it as intended.
For capture-based work, first check that capture is enabled and visibly running. Give the pipeline time to process the sample, then search it. If the source was never retained, a later AI answer cannot recover it reliably.
Evaluate the result you care about: can you find the item, check its source and use it? That is a stronger reason to adopt a feature than the length of its feature list.
What costs are separate from Pro?
Model downloads use storage and connectivity. Running models uses your hardware. Optional connected services may have their own charges, accounts and usage limits. A hosted model’s API bill is separate from using a local model through the free core.
Current Pro prices and purchase choices can change. Check the official checkout or app screen rather than relying on a price copied into an old article. This guide explains what to evaluate; it does not offer a discount, support package or price guarantee.
If you need help choosing, describe the outcome and device when you contact support. “I use Windows and want to recover copied client reference numbers” gives the team more useful information than “Which plan is best?”
Does paying change where local AI runs?
The data path depends on the selected model and tools. A local model can process on your device. An optional remote provider or online connector creates a different network path, regardless of whether a feature is free or paid.
Keep the selection local when local processing is the goal. Prepare downloads first and test the task offline where the complete workflow supports it. A paid feature does not make an online service work without connectivity.

Start with the free core for a task you can supply directly. Consider Pro when a specific supported workflow would help you retain, retrieve or act on your work more effectively.
